A Message from our Executive Director
Dear Friends,
When facts are as accessible as a simple Google search, is it still important to nurture our innate sense of curiosity and foster a desire to learn?
We think so. Providing a platform for cultivating curiosity is at the heart of the mission of Mid-America Science Museum.
- Curiosity prepares our brains for learning and makes learning more rewarding. (Stenger, 2014)
- People who have developed a healthy curiosity find more satisfaction, happiness and meaning in life. (PsychCentral, 2015)
- Curiosity is key to personal growth. (Donovan, 2002)
In 2021, we asked our museum members, community members, educators, parents, business leaders and elected officials how Mid-America Science Museum could reach more children.
We found that, while our programs have proven to be effective, we need to improve the way we reach families that do not have access to them.
To that end, we are embarking on an ambitious campaign to raise funds to provide 100% scholarships to our Summer Camps and DHS-certified Science After School program. These funds will enable us to serve up to 200 children - who are unable to participate because of financial barriers - with programs specifically designed to encourage curiosity, increase a desire to learn and prepare our kids for a successful future.
I hope you will join us in supporting this important endeavor to engage our students and direct your charitable dollars to this Scholarship Program. Please use the reply card included with this letter to make your contribution!
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Diane LaFollette
Executive Director
