Spend the Night at the Museum

Looking for a group experience that’s truly unforgettable? Spend the night at Mid-America Science Museum with a Camp-In! Perfect for scout groups, youth organizations, and school groups, this overnight adventure gives campers the rare opportunity to explore the museum after hours.

Camp-In guests enjoy private museum exploration, a live science show in the Tesla Theater, and an immersive show inside the Oaklawn Foundation Digital Dome planetarium. Once the museum closes to the public, the exhibits become your playground for discovery, exploration, and hands-on fun.

Rates begin at $2,500 for up to 50 campers, with options to enhance your visit through themed activities and add-ons. Reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance.

Activities are designed for children ages 6 years of age and older. Overnight guests are responsible for maintaining the chaperone ratio of one adult for every five children. Check in time 4:30 pm on Saturday - check out time 9:00 am on Sunday.

  • After-hours museum exploration

Optional Add-Ons:

Groups can customize their overnight experience with a few optional additions.

  • Continental Breakfast Upgrade – $100
    Includes pastry trays along with juice boxes and coffee.
  • Scout Badge Workshop – $10 per scout
    Educational workshops designed to help scouts complete badge requirements.
  • Alive After Dark Movie Camp-In – $100
    Watch Night at the Museum inside the museum with fresh popcorn.

What to bring with you:

  • Additional snacks and beverages
  • Cots, sleeping bags, pillows, and blankets
  • A charging bank for phones
  • Extra battery supply for CPAPs*
  • Pajamas
  • Basic toiletries
  • Money for purchases at the Museum Store

*While we do provide electrical outlets, access is limited after lights out.

Camp-Ins run Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

6:00–6:30 PM – Dinner time in the Snack Bar
6:30–8:30 PM – Museum exploration (and optional badge workshop)
8:30–9:00 PM – Digital Dome show
9:00–11:00 PM – Museum exploration or theme activities
11:00 PM – Lights out and overnight setup

Sunday
7:00 AM – Lights on and exhibits reopen
7:30–8:00 AM – Breakfast
8:00–9:00 AM – Final exploration and pack up
9:00 AM – Check-out

Camp-In Themes

Cosmic Camp-In
Blast off for an overnight space adventure. Campers will journey through the universe in the Digital Dome planetarium, then step outside to observe the real night sky through a telescope. Along the way, participants will create a space-inspired craft and learn about the constellations and the stories written in the stars.

Nerf® Battle in the Museum
Get ready for a night of friendly competition. Campers team up for foam blaster challenges throughout the exhibit hall, completing missions that test strategy, teamwork, and accuracy. Between activities, guests enjoy hands-on science experiences and a glow science activity.

  • Bear Cubs

Adventures in Science

  • Webelos
    • Taking part in this Webelos/Arrow of Light elective adventure will help Webelos understand and apply the role of fair investigations in science. They will acquire and evaluate information using processes associated with science, such as experiments, observation, and note taking.
