At Mid-America Science Museum, we believe the future of Arkansas and beyond depends on today’s students having access to hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) opportunities. Our STEM initiatives are designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and connect students directly with real-world career pathways. Through immersive camps, career exploration programs, and partnerships with local professionals, we’re helping young people imagine themselves as tomorrow’s innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders.
STEM Works Hot Springs: Career Exploration for Students
Every fall, the museum hosts STEM Works Hot Springs, a free, hands-on career exploration event for area students in grades 8–10. The program focuses on early workforce development by giving students the chance to meet local STEM professionals and discover the wide variety of career paths available right here in our community.

During previous events, exhibitors showcased careers in:
- Health Sciences – CHI St. Vincent, Pafford EMS
- Engineering & Architecture – Crafton Tull, Mid-South Engineering Company
- Aerospace & Manufacturing – Radius Aerospace, Rockdale MFG
- Environmental Science – U.S. Forest Service, USDA Fisheries Division, City of Hot Springs Stormwater Division
- Energy & Utilities – Entergy
Students from local districts, including Fountain Lake, Lake Hamilton, Lakeside, Mountain Pine, Cutter-Morning Star, and Connections Academy (homeschool program) have taken part in interactive activities and conversations that make STEM careers both approachable and exciting.
This program is not open to the public but is reserved for participating schools, ensuring a focused and impactful experience for every student.
Girls in STEM: Empowering the Next Generation
In partnership with High Impact Movement (H.I.M.), the museum also leads Girls in STEM, a free summer camp for rising 7th-grade girls. This five-day camp introduces participants to foundational STEM subjects such as biology, engineering, health sciences, and electricity through hands-on experiments and guided instruction.

Girls in STEM was launched in 2024 to increase representation, build confidence, and spark lifelong interest in science and technology. By creating supportive environments where young women can ask questions, experiment, and collaborate with peers, the museum is helping to open new doors and new futures.
